(Francis Creek, WI) Aug 22 - Green Bay’s Lee Kielpikowski had a roller coaster of a night.
The super stock driver battled his way to a second place finish in a borrowed race car, after flipping his mount earlier in the night. Maribel’s Denny Crass crossed the line first in the 35 lap super stock feature but was disqualified in a post race inspection for an illegal ride height, handing the win to Kielpikowski. “I can’t thank Greg (Thompson) enough for letting me borrow his car,” said Kielpikowski.
The super stock dash brought a scary moment when the cars of Kielpikowski, Tim Conard and Erik Turn tangled. Kielpikowski’s car wound up flipping on it’s roof in turn one. All three drivers were unhurt but all three cars sustained heavy damage.
Dan Lewis Photo - danlewisphoto.netKielpikowski's ride was damaged too severely to continue, so he called on an old buddy in Thompson from nereby Denmark who had his old super stock at his shop 15 minutes away in Denmark. "We put tires on it, charged the battery and we were good to go," said Kielpikowski.
Trailing Kielpikowski at the checkers was Two Rivers Jo Gauger, who was awarded second place and wound up winning the Triple Crown Series and the $500 top prize from F. Radant Sand and Gravel of Manitowoc.
Francis Creek’s Josh Sand survived heavy late race pressure from Seymour’s Jamie Schmidt and dodged several caution periods to capture the 35 lap Mid American sportsman feature. Schmidt took second at the pay window, followed by Travis Groelle, Adam White and Jimbo Schleis.
Whitelaw’s Kurt Naidl passed Manitowoc’s Jason Novak for the lead with five laps to go to win the 25 lap mini stock feature. Novak settled for second , followed by Allen Dillion, Jeremy Hebel and Jason Willadson.
Maribel’s Matt Rowe passed Green Bay’s Jason Kostichka for the lead on lap 9 and went on to win the caution free, 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature, his first of the season. Rowe took over the points lead from Keith Kickbush of Kewaunee who finished sixth.
Maribel's Matt Rowe was awarded the victory in the 20 lap, IMCA hobby stock race after apparent winner Patrick Oehlke of Manitowoc was disqualified after his car failed to pass post race inspection.
Ian Fogeltanz won the sport four feature.
