A total of four championships couldn’t cause Tyler Bauknecht to flinch. The Mid-American Stock Car Series rookie picked up his first series win at Dells Raceway Park Saturday night by holding off Bill Prietzel and Mark Pluer on a late restart.

Before Bauknecht had the opportunity to fend off Prietzel and Pluer, he was locked in an early side-by-side battle with the defending DRP winner. The second-generation MASCS driver gave Pluer the dreaded outside line, where the 1996 champ was unable to capitalize.

“I saw him in my rearview mirror. He was going to the outside, and I just told myself that I wasn’t going to let him get around me on the outside,” Bauknecht said. “I just kept running as hard as I could. I left nothing out there.”

The duel began after Bauknecht took advantage of the pole position to dispose of Chris Ratajczyk. With the door open, Pluer immediately slid into the runner-up spot. Pluer took only four circuits before he jumped to the high line.

In search of his second consecutive win at the Dells, and third in four starts, Pluer slowly pulled even with Bauknecht. On lap six Pluer put his nose ahead and was scored as the leader. Bauknecht had a rebuttal in store and stormed back on the inside line. After creeping back on the low line for three circuits, Bauknecht forced Pluer to tuck back in line behind him.

“I had to get him early if I could get him,” Pluer said. “I actually had the position once, but I couldn’t take it away. He charged back and took it back. I had nothing for him after that.”

Kids Night at Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Sanctioned track, is always an event you don’t want to miss, and this year was no exception. The night featured inflatable games and activities sponsored by Viking Village Foods and Viking Express Mart, rides in the stock cars, an on-track autograph session.

Rich Schumann Jr set was fast qualifier for the second week in a row with a time of 14.405 seconds. It was the final week of the Assembly Products Fast Dash Challenge, and due to the full field invert, Rich Schumann and Davey Pennel started from the back. Pennel, made the most of the ten laps working his way to the front of the field to challenge race leader Shayne Poenhelt. Despite heavy pressure from Pennel, Poenhelt held on to the lead and secured a place in the shootout and a win.

The Assembly Products Shoot-Out will be held next week, July 17th and will award the winner a grand prize of $1,000. The Shoot-Out will feature a field of 8 drivers based on points accumulated during the four weeks of competition and one Promoter’s Choice provisional. The top eight drivers are Rich Schumann Jr, Davey Pennel, Cardell Potter, Bobby Kendall, Corey Jankowski, Mike Lichtfeld, Mike Ehde, and Shayne Poenhelt.

The pendulum continues to swing around the drivers competing for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship as each week we could see a new leader. But, this week that swings back to Corey Jankowski at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Jankowski sits at the top of the standing among the ASA Member Track point leaders with an average of 2.2099. Rodney Cook of Ace Speedway in Elon, NC sits second in the standings with an average of 2.1838 with Logan Mainella of Orange Show Speedway in third with an average of 2.1816.

Not only is Jankowski in a tight battle for the National Title, he is currently in a tight battle at his home track as he currently has a three-point lead over Davey Pennel. Pennel won his first feature this past Saturday night. In fact, the top-nine in the track standings is only separated by 81 points.

Cook has a 60-point lead over Bobby Griffin in the track standings at Ace Speedway. He also has five feature wins so far this season and could be a factor as the season goes on.

Clint LaFont of Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, TX is still in the hunt with an average of 2.0723 and is fourth overall. Bryan Wordelman of Rocky Mountain Raceway in West Valley City, UT rounds out the top-five among the point leaders with an average of 2.0244.
